About MP3 Streaming DownSampler (mp3SDS)
----------------------------------------
This program was written after @Home cut my upstream from 110K/sec to
about 15K/sec, and I was no longer able to stream my mp3s to my work
computer in their full form.
The interface is has been built for quickness and pure utility.
Thanks to Daniel M, it's interface is no longer an ugly duckling!
System Requirements:
--------------------
- PHP4
- LAME 3.85 or newer. Tested to work with 3.93.1
- Decent hardware (decode then resampling can eat CPU time..)
A computer with a P3-550 w/ 128M RAM, and has been able to handle 4 to
5 requests at a time with aplomb. Read 'About mp3 settings' below for
more information on performance.
Installation:

License:

mp3SDS is GPL. Use it all you want for free. If you do something
cool with this, please let us know -- contact info is at the top of
this file.
Future Plans for mp3SDS:
------------------------
We are playing with the following features for upcoming releases:
- Allowing playlists to include or exclude certain files
- File name search via slocate index of the songs dir
- Downloadable directory contents via on-the-fly tarballs
- Automatic album image display via Altavista image search
Things that would be pretty cool but currently aren't on the plate are:
- Native support for windows servers w/o hacking the code.
- Maybe some rudimentary graphic icons for folders, files, etc.
If you really, really want something, send us a mail. Or hack it in
and send it to us. If it's spiffy, we'll merge it in and give credit
where it is due.
